AGRED's proposed programme
for July 2007 to March 2008
1. Courses. We have scheduled three different courses as follows.
Dedicated Hunter course.
21-23 September 2007.
This course will provide official accreditation as a Dedicated Hunter. AGRED is developing a course with CHASA specifically for wingshooters. Cost is R1920 per person for a two-day course. Fully catered and accommodation provided.
Introduction to gamebirds and gamebird shooting.
26-28 October 2007.
This will be an introductory course (for partners of shooters or new shooters) and will suit the shooter looking for added value and understanding of gamebirds and the sport. Course content includes lectures on gamebirds and shooting, gundogs and falconry. Field activities will include gundogs working on gamebirds, live falconry displays and clay pigeon shooting. The package includes superb accommodation at Fairview farm with an excellent gamebird-based dinner on Saturday night. This is the ideal opportunity to introduce someone to gamebirds, ethical utilisation and the sport of gamebird shooting. The course is fully-catered and should be a memorable social occasion. Cost is R2 640 per person. We can accommodate 14 persons, and will offer a second course if the demand is high. Should any AGRED member consider this course as a unique corporate event, please contact us to discuss.
Introduction to gundogs and gundog training.
A fully-catered course in March 2008.
This two-day course focuses on practical training and is timed for training young dogs or sharpening the skills of gundogs before the next shooting season. Bring your own dog! It will be an ideal introduction for potential gundog owners. Matthew Berry will lead theory and practical exercises with pointing and retrieving dogs assisted by skilled dog-handlers. Cost will be R2 640 per person.
Father & Son course. We are considering a course aimed specifically at Fathers & Sons (and of course Mothers & Daughters). We aim to build their confidence of youngsters through training using clay pigeon shooting and with real field situations. Let us know if you are interested.
2. Gamebird shoots. We have opted for a conservative approach, whilst building experience and gamebird stocks, given the poor breeding season experienced this year. We will offer the following:
Guineafowl shoots.
27-29 July 2007 and 17-19 August 2007.
Two shoots for ten guns, with guineafowl as the main target. Other target species will be added as appropriate. The cost is R2 730 per weekend, fully-catered, with accommodation at the magnificent Fairview Farm.
Partridge/francolin shoots.
We offer four 2-day shoots for 2-4 guns.
The primary targets are partridge and francolin, with waterfowl and guineafowl as available, with bags of 10 birds per gun per day and about 10 km of walking behind high-quality pointing dogs each day. The timing of shoots is at your discretion, and can take place mid-week or over a weekend between mid-July and the end of August. The cost is R1 550 per gun self-catering, with catered shoots an option. We may offer more shoots, and thus will keep a waiting list. Book through the AGRED office on a first-come first-served basis. When booking, the AGRED office will discuss accommodation and catering options.
