31 Oct 2003 - Trustees and Management Committee additions
AGRED members and management extend a very warm welcome to our new Trustees, Patrick Quirk and Anthony Evans. Although they need no introduction, for the record, Patrick who grew up in Zimbabwe, spends most of his time in Europe and will be of enormous assistance over there in garnering support for AGRED. His regular contact with the mining world and conservation people in the UK in particular, will be invalulable.
Bearing in mind we already have the immediate past Director General of the Game Conservancy Trust of Great Britain on our Board, Dr Dick Potts, we look forward to some interesting times ahead.
Anthony and Jane Evans, who have joined the Board subsequent to the year end, between them have a formidable following in the worlds of education, banking, business, maize farming and Sussex Stud breeders. Jane’s own initiative in the field of rural pre-school development, known as “Ntataise”, received the first Presidential award from Nelson Mandela. She was also named Woman of the Year by The Star newspaper and was awarded the Rector’s Gold Medal by the Johannesburg College of Education for services to education. This adds an important new opportunity for AGRED’S mission regarding environmental education in the rural areas.
It goes without saying that the Agricultural and Educational sectors are cornerstones of South Africa’s future and the official SA Govt. support for AGRED together with the Evans’ success in these areas bodes well for support from the USA and Europe.
AGRED is also pleased to welcome Robbie Crawford-Brunt who has agreed to be co-opted onto our management committee. His reputation and contacts in the world of field trials will assist us in spreading and disseminating AGRED information regarding habitat management and sporting ethics.
Robbie has confessed his feelings on becoming an AGRED ManCo member in an article which can be found under 'Members Write' on this News page.
