10 Jun 2004 - The news on rapid progress in AGRED is promising.
After just a few days with Aldo in the saddle as the new Director, the operations of AGRED are showing a rapid revival. The office computer hardware and software have been upgraded or replaced, whilst the renewal of the website content will receive weekly or even more frequent attention from Aldo. Please keep visiting this page to stay in touch with new developments, which promise to come thick and fast. For example, see the two additional news stories on developments fundamental to AGRED’s long-term role.
Aldo has visited many persons within or associated with AGRED, and is hard at work integrating the various ideas into a new future for AGRED. As an organisation, AGRED will revisit its strategies, policies and activities as the basis for future action. Thus Aldo met regularly with the Chairman, Management Committee and its members, as well as the project leaders John Skeen (the AGRED book project) and Andrew Murray (the Lehurutshe community development programme). Aldo has visited associates of AGRED, including Zero-Gravity Design in Cape Town, Raoul van der Westhuizen of Wingshooters South Africa, gamebird experts such as Rob Little and Tim Crowe, and Prof Morne du Plessis of the Fitzpatrick Institute.
There has been a very enthusiastic response from a broad range of conservationists to the re-emergence of AGRED. Several have suggested major projects which will need to be prioritised and integrated into AGRED’s new activities.
The new electronic newsletter will now go out quarterly to members, and in hard copy to members who choose that option. In addition there will be occasional informative emails directly to members. Please contribute to the members section of the website and the newsletter – send your inputs to Aldo at agred@netdial.co.za. Your contributions will be welcome.
AGRED members can look forward to a future of progress. Lapsed members are urged to rejoin as AGRED once again makes a difference.
