03 Sep 2003 - Special tax relief will assist growth
A serious conservation body like Agred can only be effective if it is well funded and well staffed.
These two factors are inextricably bound together and Agred therefore took a large step forward at the beginning of this year when a full-time secretary was employed. Everything achieved to date has been done on a purely voluntary basis by scores of people all around the country.
With over 40 wild gamebird species that are facing ever increasing habitat pressure in southern Africa and with Agred being the only privately run and funded organisation of its kind, the importance of employing a full time director is self evident.
in order to assist the Fund to achieve its target level, we have made an application to the Commissioner of Inland Revenue to grant us an exemption from certain provisions of the Income Tax Act, which will allow us to accumulate funds accordingly. Our advisors inform us that we have a very good chance of being granted the exemption.
Plans are well advanced to hold two fundraising dinners in America in the latter half of 2004. We are very hopeful that these will produce meaningful contributions to the Fund.
