31 May 1995 - Proving the qualtiy of the Redwing francolin as a gamebird
By Peter Johnson
The Redwing Partridge project committee held a test shoot for a morning over part of the Dullstroom district.
The purpose of the shoot was to form an opinion about the quality of the Redwing Partridge as a gamebird.
The six-man committee returned duly impressed and with glowing reports of what truly outstanding gamebirds Redwings are.
"Quick and challenging," was their verdict.
They also commented on the performance of project researcher Raymond Jansen's two pointers, which they described as "outstanding".
"Young and keen; these two dogs will be invaluable over the next two years," they said.
Thanks to Agred member Glyn Riley, the project received a tremendous boost in the form of the Toyota bakkie that Raymond uses to do his fieldwork.
Since the start of this project Agred has received over R100 000 , which means the project is already two-thirds financed.
Raymond has already completed the initial census work and is monitoring breeding, reproductive activities and the number of birds produced by pairs each season.
